Hackel Apple Crisp Recipe

This simple apple crisp is the perfect way to welcome fall into your home! Our friend’s, the Hackels, gave us this recipe several years ago.
Makes one 9×13″ pan, or equivalent
Base layer:
8-10 med. apples (cored and sliced or cubed. Peel if preferred.)
ground cinnamon (enough to generously coat apples)
2 T. water
Top layer:
1 C. white sugar
3/4 C. flour
1 (1/2 C.) stick butter (room temp.)
Core and slice (or cube) apples. Place apples and water in bowl and sprinkle generously with cinnamon. Stir with spoon. Place in pan. In a separate bowl, add sugar, flour and room temp. butter. Mix with fork until crumbly. Pour on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 min. Enjoy!
Note: We love to serve this hot with a side of vanilla ice cream! It’s good by itself too though.
Jill, it’s 7:30 in the morning here and I want to make this for breakfast! This sounds yum!
You should toss the apples with the cinnamon and a little lemon juice that way it mixes in with the apples. Also, for an apple crisp, you should add oats to the “crust”. It’s a million times better.
Add some uncooked oatmeal (regular rolled oats) to the topping. It will be much tastier and crisper.
This is exactly like mine but I add oats. Just a couple of tbls. It’s a perfect crunch and perfect for fall. You’ll never miss the oats. Love it!
Add quick oatmeal and brown sugar to give it crunchy topping.
Yep great idea what else I can eat for desert with apples
for a more textured crumb topping use 1/4 c flour and 1/2 c oatmeal. either way, a yummy fall treat
Girl, you need to have your own cooking show. That looks incredible!!
How much cinnamon do you use and how many apples
Hey Lynette,
I used 8-10 medium apples. Hard to say on the cinnamon…just a generous sprinkle on the apples (it would be hard to put too much since the sugar and butter will help it cook into the apples).
Friends doesn’t have an apostrophe in this case since they’re not possessing anything. it’s just a plural. Just letting you know 🙂
Seriously Valerie??? ♀️♀️♀️
I have made this several times! It’s definitely fun and easy to make! My 3 little ones love it!
Yay! Glad you enjoy it!
