Time For HairCuts!

We were long overdue for haircuts and with extra time at home during social distancing due to the coronavirus pandemic, it made clearing the schedule a little easier. The weather was great so we kept the door open for fresh air, turned on Sesame Street to entertain the boys during their cuts and transformed the kitchen into a pretend barber shop.

Fun facts: (1) My mom taught me how to cut my dad and brothers hair when I was a teenager. (2) My first time to cut Derick’s hair was in Nepal just a few days after we’d met for the first time (after the camera crew left)! We couldn’t find any clippers, so I did it all with scissors and was super nervous I was gonna mess something up. He says he enjoyed that it took me longer than normal to do though. lol. Oh, and I’ve cut his hair ever since that first time. 😉

Can you cut hair? When did you start? Drop us a comment below.

See the short video below for time-lapse of the boys cuts + before and after pics.

    1. Great job on the haircuts, Jill! The boys look so different and they’ll be nice and cool for the warmer weather.

Wow those haircuts made your boys look like big kids, especially your oldest!

I also cut my husband and two son’s hair at home. I actually never planned on doing it, but my husband didn’t love making appointments to go get his own cut, and then also when my oldest (13 now) was a toddler, we started noticing he had a lot of sensory issues and haircuts were one of the worse things for him. He would be so over-stimulated and taking him to a salon or barber would result in a lot of tears for him and me. I was very happy for YouTube tutorials to teach me a thing or two on how to do it. Though my son still struggled a lot even when I would cut his hair, it was a little smoother and I realized just how much money we would save if I just committed to doing them all at home. Now it’s been so long, I almost feel like a pro (not really). Now I would like to learn to cut my little girl’s hair too.

  1. Love the haircuts-especially the way Israel’s hair is “spikey” with gel. They both look cute with longer hair AND shorter hair. Shorter hair is probably better for the summer weather coming.

  2. Loved the haircuts! Now when you do Derek’s could you maybe do it on regular speed? Now that we’re isolating my husband needs a buzz and I’ve no idea where to even begin!
    Thanks! 🙂
    Stay safe!
