Guacamole Recipe

Guacamole Recipe

My mom taught me how to make this delicious guacamole! The more lime and cilantro the better! My family (the Duggars) usually quadruple this recipe!

2 avocados*

1 roma tomato (diced)

3 T. lime juice

1/4 C. cilantro** (washed and finely chopped)

1/4 t. salt

1/4 t. pepper

1/4 t. garlic powder

1/4 t. onion powder

corn tortilla chips (for serving)

Smash avocados (save 1 seeds for later). Add all other ingredients. Add avocado seeds to help keep guacamole from turning brown. Serve with corn tortilla chips or as a side with Mexican food!

*Trick: when trying to get seeds out of an avocado, (after you have cut them in half) put your knife into the seed and twist and it will come right out!

**I usually wash and chop my cilantro when I get it from the store, then keep it in the freezer so I can throw in however much I need into my recipes. It’s chopped so small, that I don’t even notice a difference. I do prefer fresh or frozen cilantro over dried (it just wouldn’t have the same flavor, especially in an uncooked dish).

    Jill,

Why do you leave a seed in the guacamole? Does it help keep it fresh and from turning brown?

      Mallory,
Yes, leaving the seed in the guac helps it keep from turning completely brown!

I put a thin layer of olive oil on top of the left over guac (it keeps it from turning brown completely). You can keep it for days and just spoon out the layer of oil before eating it

Actually, it will help keep whatever the seed is on top of from turning brown.

How long does the guacamole last before it turns brown? For example say i want to make it for an after dinner snack would it last all day if i made it in the am or should i wait til right before dinner? I know guacamole is one of those foods where its gd, its gd, it bad just like that. Any tips on ways to make it last longer than 1 day?

Hey Pattylynn, It tastes the best if eaten the same day, but I totally keep it in the fridge for more than a day and as long as it’s covered, I just give it a stir and its great! I feel like it’s more the tomatoes in this recipe that I have to worry about not tasting quite as fresh, but if they’re cut in super small chunks it makes it less noticeable.

Hey Jill I love to add a brick of cream cheese to my guacamole! It adds a creamy texture and adds to the quantity ( I have a large family as well) give it a try and let me know what you think! Love following you and your adorable family!

This is almost exactly how I make mine! I love tresj cilantro and I put in the freezer like you do. Have you ever made cilantro lime rice?! It’s so amazing and easy! Cook rice, squeeze 4-8 fresh limes, dice 1 cop red onion, chop 1/2 bunch of cilantro, and add some garlic powder or granulated garlic and a bit of salt. My hubby and mother-in-law love it

Because I am only one in the house that loves guacamole, I have never made it. However, I’m not a fan of tomatoes. Are they necessary in this recipe? TY!

Nope. You can totally make it without the tomatoes! Hope you enjoy it! 🙂
