Jeanne’s Sloppy Joes

Jeanne’s Sloppy Joes

This is an easy, 5 ingredient recipe that is sure to please! Our friends from Mississippi, the Wilsons, always made their Aunt Jeanne’s Sloppy Joes when they were visiting my family in Arkansas. This recipe would be multiplied several times over and was usually served with a side of several pounds of party potatoes for a quick lunch to feed a crowd (that crowd usually included 10+ hungry guys coming from a construction job).

1 pkg. hamburger buns or sandwich bread for serving

Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef or turkey

1/2 C. ketchup

1/2 C. BBQ sauce

1/2 envelope dry onion soup mix

2 tsp. liquid smoke

Directions: Brown meat, drain. Add all other ingredients, heat through. Serve on buns or sandwich bread. Enjoy!

Looks good, will have to try your recipe. My son loves “joe sandwiches ” he says it’s not nice to call people sloppy. So he will not eat “sloppy joes” lol. His favorite meal is Joe sandwiches, plain baked potatoes no butter or anything and corn on the cob with butter ( a pound of butter if he had his way. ) I think you decided my supper for tomorrow but he may have to settle for plain green beans. A close second (only thing he will use butter on us corn. )

Is there a substitute for liquid smoke? I never heard of this.

Hey Jade. I’m not sure if there is a liquid smoke substitute, but if you can’t find it, I’m sure there are lots of sloppy joe’s recipes other places, or packets that might not include liquid smoke. 🙂

I made this tonight and served it with the party potatoes recipe as a side dish, just as you recommended. I am finding that every time I use a Duggar family recipe, my meals are so incredibly tasty yet so simple to prepare for my family! Thank you so much for sharing these “fail proof” recipes! I’m looking forward to serving this meal again for a bigger family party. So much flavor, yet so easy to make. Same goes for the potatoes… Delicious!
